Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Cologne, Germany (Embarkation Day)

Cologne, the old Cathedral city, is also one of the most important traffic hubs and commercial centres in Germany, with world famous trade fairs and a busy shipping traffic. Cologne developed out of a Roman colony and looks back on a history of more than 2000 years. In the Middle Ages it was one of the leading towns in Germany. The Second World War destroyed most of the inner city; these parts were rebuilt in a modern style. The landmark and emblem of the city is the Cathedral, a masterpiece of High Gothic architecture and one of the largest cathedrals in Europe. Other tourist attractions are the town hall, the Malakoff Tower, the St Martin Church and the old abbey. The ship departs from Cologne at 17:00 hrs.

Day 2:  Frankfurt

Frankfurt is known for its “Manhattan skyline” with the Messeturm (convention tower) which is the highest building in Europe. The old imperial city is one of the most important trading and economic centres in Germany. Many important banks and the most important stock market are situated in Frankfurt. Frankfurt was the birthplace of J.W. v. Goethe and its many universities, theatre and museums provide a diversified cultural life.

Day 3: Wertheim

The town of Wertheim is regarded by the Germans themselves as a small and beautiful town along the Main. It developed on an easily-defended site where the Tauber river joins the Main. Wertheim Castle is the second largest castle ruin in southern Germany. The historical old centre of the city has a great deal to offer, e.g. delightful timber-framed houses and the Gothic town church with the tombs of the Graves of Wertheim.

Day 4: Wurzburg

Würzburg is the capital of the government district of Lower Franconia with 122, 000 inhabitants. The city is located on the flat right bank overlooked by the huge Marienberg Fortress surrounded by vineyards. The city and the Marienberg Fortress were occupied and plundered by the Swedish Army in the Thirty Years´ War. But this time of destruction was followed by a “Golden Age” under Prince-Bishop Philipp von Schonborn, who embellished Würzburg with splendid buildings and churches that can still be visited today.

Day 5: Schweinfurt - Hassfurt

Excursion stops.

Day 6: Nuremberg

Nuremberg is a lively city of about half a million inhabitants. It is the second largest Bavarian city with a visible history of almost one thousand years. Nuremberg boasts a unique mixture of tradition and modernity. Worth visiting are the traditional markets and the historical main hall. The city is also well known for its famous Christmas Market and gingerbread.

Day 7: Regensburg

Regensburg is a city of outstanding historic significance. The authentically preserved medieval character of the old town allows Regensburg since 2006 to hold the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other tourist attractions in the city are its churches, architectural monuments, museums and galleries.

Day 8: Engelhartszell (Passau) (Disembarkation Day)

Ship arrives in Engelhartszell at approx. 07:00 hrs. Your cruise comes to an end this morning as you disembark after breakfast.
